Culture came from the Greek word “cultura” or “cultus“; it means care or cultivation. Culture is acquired by individual as a member of a particular society. It may include the knowledge, law, art, morals, customs, belief, traditions, habits, capabilities and other else.
Culture is an important aspect of a society; it provides the behavioral patterns of every members. It gives meaning as well as direction to an individual’s existence, culture offers possible solution, culture maintains the group’s biological functioning as well as it makes an individual’s attitude and values developed and gives him or her a conscience. Culture continues to evolve transform and transmit, from generation to generation; it is a process like the human life.
The knowledge, language, symbols, values, norms, material culture and the technology that human used are among of the components of culture.
Knowledge is all the information that an individual acquired through education and experiences in life. Language is a mean of communication of a group of people’ through the medium of language, culture was able to developed in every society. Symbols are the things that represents something in the society; it is also considered to be as one of the basis of culture. Values is responsible in shaping one’s personality; these are the standards that were adopted by the society in order to distinguish what is desirable and what is not. Norms are the rules that serve as guide of the behavior of every members of society. Material Culture are the people’s way of life as it is influenced by the materials or things that are produced by the human technology. The Technology are the scientific knowledge that are applied by the society in order to provide a practical end; these include the production of different materials such as goods, tools, equipment and others which the society uses form generation to generation
